Between 1990 - 1992 AIT provided technical assistance to the Fiji Government and the Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) to facilitate the transition of FIT from direct Ministry of Education control to autonomy under the control of a governing Council.
From April 1992 AIT also undertook to assist with orientation of the new Council, establishment of an Academic Board and assisted with other administrative activites.
