Her teaching and research focuses on the relationship between education, social diversity and social disadvantage in national and international contexts. She is interested in the ways in which sociological analyses can help to illuminate the intended and unintended consequences of education policy and practice, particularly in disadvantaged school communities. She has conducted research in Australia, India and China, and is the author of the book Pedagogies for Development: The Politics and Practice of Child-Centred Education in India.)
