CSIRO (Australia) (Corporate Name)

In 1926 the Institute of Science and Industry, which had replaced the Advisory Council of Science and Industry, became the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. In 1949 the latter was replaced by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization

CSIRO, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, was established by the Science and Industry Research Act of 1949. Under the Act, CSIRO replaced the former Council for Scientific and Industrial Research established in 1926. In 1986 the CSIRO changed the spelling of its name, with the word "Organization" becoming "Organisation".
