email from author, 05-16-2012: (Potter based his novel, Pyg, on a work published in 1817 (London), attributed to Nicholas Hoare, with the title: The life and adventures of Toby the sapient pig; the email states: "...this book is that it is not, in fact, an edition of any early 19th century book, but entirely a work of fiction. That said, it is based on the career of an actual pig from the 1780's, and the "conceit" of the novel is to make it seem as though it were an edited version of an actual narrative"; he did not explain why he wrote the text in this fashion)
