Scholarship, Posted February 26, 2013 (Both Amy Jean (Allen) Roberson and John A. Roberson were born and raised on farms near Woodland, Washington and graduated from Woodland High School in 1943, when WWII was at its peak. John joined the Navy in June '43 and was sent to officers' training school. He received his commission as Ensign in March '45 and was discharged from the Navy in June of '46.. In the fall of 1946 Amy and John enrolled at Washington State College, he in Civil Engineering and she in Textiles and Clothing. John then earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1948. The Spokesman Review (website), viewed April 8, 2022: Love Stories: Couple still make each other laugh after 70 years, Wed., Aug. 16, 2017 (Amy and John Roberson grew up in the same small community of Woodland, Washington, on farms about 2 miles apart. On Aug. 17, 1947, they were married at the Presbyterian church in Woodland. They honeymooned in British Columbia and then returned to WSU where John received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1948. He taught at WSU, and their children were active in Camp Fire and Boy Scouts. In 1963, they moved to Thailand when John accepted a teaching position with the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering.
